A sound education for young people is an investment in the future: This principle applies equally to the development of society and the sustainable success of companies. At LANXESS, applicants have a variety of avenues open to them: In Germany, one option is a combination of training and studies, another conventional training in scientific, technical or commercial fields.
LANXESS aims to awaken interest and enthusiasm in chemistry and forges contacts with the potential high performers of tomorrow at an early stage. The company participates in training and university recruitment fairs, offers internships to school students and organizes workshops with schoolchildren at high schools it partners with.
Training ratio in Germany above average
Across Germany LANXESS provides training in 20 different occupations. With a training ratio of 5.6 percent in 2009, LANXESS outperformed the industry average in this regard and also significantly exceeded the ratio specified in the collective agreement on training in the German chemical industry, Zukunft durch Ausbildung (Securing the Future through Training). Overall, LANXESS invests more than EUR 11.5 million in vocational training each year. In recent years, despite the fall in employee figures, the company has taken on – both directly and indirectly – 175 trainees on temporary and permanent contracts. By 2014 LANXESS wants to increase its training ratio again by 50 percent. Already from 2011, 150 young people will be able to start training at LANXESS every year.
Trainee program for the best recruits
LANXESS also offers international careers opportunities to university graduates, and offers a special trainee program called “Prepare For the Future”. By the end of 2009, around 30 individuals had been trained under this program. Its aim is to prepare young graduates for an international career within the LANXESS group and establish a global pool of young managers with international experience.
