Dr. Karl-Heinz Duchêne was born in Trier, Germany, on May 25, 1953. After studying chemistry, he began his career at Bayer AG in 1986, working in the Central Research Division’s pilot plant in Krefeld.
In 1988 he became Plant Manager in Bayer AG’s Pharmaceutical Business Group. In 1989 he was appointed head of the Central Research Division’s pilot plant in Krefeld. In 1995 he returned to Bayer AG’s Pharmaceuticals Business Group, taking over the Process Development Department in Wuppertal-Elberfeld. In 1997 he became head of the Pharmaceutical Pilot Plant, assuming responsibility for planning, engineering and the start of operations of the new pilot plant in Elberfeld. In 2002 he was appointed head of the Central Organics Pilot Plant (ZeTO) in Leverkusen, then part of Bayer’s Fine Chemicals Business Unit and now belonging to LANXESS subsidiary Saltigo GmbH.
Since 2005, Dr. Karl-Heinz Duchêne has been head of Manufacturing Strategy in the Pharma business line of Saltigo.
Karl-Heinz Duchêne is married.
