Leading the way in energy efficiency

A consistent commitment to protecting resources and ensuring cost efficiency

From the procurement of raw materials to production, logistics and the disposal of residual materials – LANXESS is working to improve energy efficiency along the entire value added chain. Cutting-edge technologies and processes help to cut energy consumption, safeguard natural resources and save on costs at the same time. One example of this is the highly efficient cogeneration plant, which produces electricity and steam.

In 2010, LANXESS alone commissioned four new environmentally friendly plants at its Porto Feliz (Brazil), Jhagadia, Nagda (both India) and Zwijndrecht (Belgium) sites. These power plants run on sustainable raw materials or, in Belgium, natural gas and operate on a CO2-neutral basis. LANXESS invested around EUR 80 million worldwide in sustainable energy generation in 2010.

Energy efficiency in production processes
To continue improving the energy and resource balance of its production plants, LANXESS has introduced the X_Energy energy check. The tool is used to systematically analyze the energy efficiency of individual plants and thus show where potential exists for further optimization. This helps to ensure that energy use is managed efficiently at the production plants. The implementation of a global energy management system at LANXESS is also due to be completed by the end of 2012. The goal is by 2015 to cut specific energy consumption for each segment by 10 percent compared to 2010 levels.
