Gujarat becomes greener!

On World Earth Day the creation of a green zone at the Jhagadia site was started.

On the occasion of World Earth Day LANXESS India announced the creation of a Green Zone at its new Jhagadia site in Gujarat, India. The site, which is under construction, will host an ion exchange resins plant and a rubber chemicals plant and will create 225 jobs. The Green initiative aims to plant around 3000 trees. To kick-off the initiative, a tree plantation drive was organized in cooperation with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to create awareness about environmental protection.


After the tree planting, the participants signed their pledges on a board, declaring their commitment to protect the environment. Another highlight was the poster displays of environment-related topics. More than 100 people were involved, and they include LANXESS India employees, GPCB member and students from the Industrial Technical Institute (ITI) in Ankleshwar. At the occasion, LANXESS India also announced the donation of lockers to ITI centres in Jhagadia and Ankleshwar. 


Namitesh Roychoudhary, LANXESS India, Vice President of Industrial & Environmental Affairs (IEA) & Capital Investments, said, “We believe that it is important to empower future generations of the nation to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development. Partnering with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board and the Industrial Training Institute is a step towards creating a society where people enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.”

World Earth Day is designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries annually on April 22.
